Flora’s Journey

Our Story: Greening the World Together

Founded in 1994, Flora Ornamental Plants was built on the late Mehmet Kemal Kuşçuoğlu’s love for nature and plants, which began in childhood. His interest in gardening took shape when he started selling flowers at the age of seven. Over time, his desire to recognize plants, cultivate them, and beautify his surroundings turned into a professional passion.

Inspired by his aunt Habibe—whom he called “my master” in his childhood—Kuşçuoğlu began growing flowers and pursued his ideal by earning a bachelor’s degree from Çukurova University’s Faculty of Agriculture. He also completed his master’s degree in Horticulture at the same university. During his education, he gained international experience by completing an internship in France related to his field.

After graduating, he began working at the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) and encouraged flower production in the gardens of the institution where he served. During his term as a regional director, he requested the establishment of a glass greenhouse and turned the area into an active production center.

As his interest in trial production grew and required larger areas, he rented a plot of land and built his own greenhouse. When his experiments in cutting propagation and seed production proved successful, he institutionalized the nursery in 1994 under the name “Flora Ornamental Plants.”

At a time when landscaping and environmental planning were not yet widespread in Kahramanmaraş, he contributed to many factories and gardens by introducing and promoting ornamental plants suitable for the region. Having delivered nearly 100 landscaping projects, Kuşçuoğlu also documented local flower culture by writing a book titled “Traditional Garden Flowers of Kahramanmaraş.”

He devoted his life to nature and production, living—by his own words—“a meaningful life.” In 2021, he passed away at the age of 67 due to IPF. The knowledge he left behind, his projects, and the thousands of plants he nurtured continue to live on.

May he rest in peace, and may his place be in heaven.
